Team USA finalized its roster Tuesday and Warriors guard Stephen Curry survived the final cut. He will play for the team in the FIBA men’s championship. Team USA’s first game is Saturday against Croatia. Celtics guard Rajon Rondo, who didn’t play during Sunday’s game, has withdrawn from the team, according to USA basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo. “Rajon Rondo came to us and said he was going to withdraw from the team, that he had some family matters to attend to… Read More »

Curry may be odd man out for Team USA

I’m not sure how much can be taken from Stephen Curry’s performance in Saturday’s exhibition against Lithuania. He played well in the time allotted him (2-2 FG, 1-1 3P, 5 points), but the team-low three minutes would indicate¬†that Curry’s chances at making the final cut for Team USA aren’t good. It doesn’t matter if the lack of playing time was because of the ankle injury he sustained during practice this week or because the U.S. coaches are closing in on… Read More »

Curry sprains ankle in Team USA practice

Warriors guard Stephen Curry sprained his ankle during Wednesday’s practice for Team USA in Madrid, Spain. ESPN reports that the injury looked serious at first, but that there is no structural damage to the ankle. Here’s an excerpt from ESPN’s article: Curry landed on a teammate’s foot during a scrimmage and immediately went down, and those who witnessed it said the injury initially appeared serious. “I think he was a little scared,” coach Mike Krzyzewski told ESPN.com. But the team’s… Read More »

Curry, Gordon … and Westbrook for final spot?

Team USA made a couple cuts over the weekend, letting go of Jeff Green and JaVale McGee. The roster, currently at 13 players, will have one more cut, but that decision could wait until after the team completes its four-game exhibition schedule. Team USA beat France, 86-55, in its first exhibition on Sunday. France kept things interesting for about a quarter and a half before the United States ran away with the game. Kevin Durant led the U.S. with 14… Read More »

Curry’s spot on Team USA not a lock

Stephen Curry was perceived to be a pretty sure bet to be one of the final 12 players on Team USA’s roster. Most felt his outside shooting ability would come in handy in the international game, which gave him the edge over the Clippers’ Eric Gordon. Now, with Saturday’s performance against China in a scrimmage, Gordon may have breathed life into a late charge to earn the 12th roster spot over Curry. In Team USA’s 98-51 win, Gordon scored 15… Read More »

Update: Curry retains spot on Team USA roster

It’s not a surprise, but still a nice honor: Warriors guard Stephen Curry was selected Wednesday as one of 15 players to play for Team USA in the upcoming World Championships. Curry must survive one more round of cuts when the roster is trimmed to 12 players on Aug. 26. Pool play in the World Championships begins two days later. The team opens training camp on Aug. 9. Here’s a look at the 15-player roster: Guards Derrick Rose Chauncey Billups… Read More »

Warriors point guard Stephen Curry was named to USA Basketball’s 2010-12 National Team on Tuesday, along with the Kings’ Tyreke Evans, the Thunder’s Jeff Green and the Pistons’ Tayshaun Prince. The national team’s roster now stands at 31 players. “In adding Tyreke and Stephen we’ve brought into the national team fold two of the game’s most exciting and promising newcomers,” said USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo. Added USA head coach Mike Krzyzewski: “The addition of Tayshaun, Jeff, Stephen and Tyreke… Read More »
