Mixed emotions about season-opening win

I have mixed emotions about the Warriors’ season-opening¬†132-128 win against the Houston Rockets. Emotion No. 1: Relieved I’m glad the Warriors got a win. The Rockets are a good team, even though they were playing the second night of a back-to-back and without Yao Ming. The Warriors had no excuses if they had lost this game, so it’s good that they held on for the victory. Emotion No. 2: Excited There were a lot of good things to take away… Read More »

Thoughts on the sale, Lee, Wright and more …

I’ve been on vacation for the past week, attending a family wedding, and was unable to find any free time to put together anything of worth regarding the vast amount of Warriors news that has broken during that time frame. I have a lot to catch up on. In order of importance: THE SALE Finally, the process that began in July 2009 has become reality. When I first heard that Chris Cohan was considering selling the team, it was the… Read More »

36 minutes tells the (incomplete) story

I always like to look at players’ stats adjusted to reflect starters’ minutes (36 per game). I’m fully aware it’s not an exact science; especially for players who get very few actual minutes on the court, it can present some false perceptions of a player’s ability. In addition, just because a player who normally plays 18 minutes a game would average 18 points and 11 rebounds in starters’ minutes doesn’t mean that player should necessarily get 36 minutes per game.… Read More »

Curry, Warriors end with a bang

Well, you can’t blame Stephen Curry if voters don’t name him Rookie of the Year. He certainly has done everything possible to demonstrate that he is the NBA’s most talented rookie, including a sparkling performance in the regular-season finale against the Blazers (42 points, 9 rebounds, 8 assists, 2 steals, 1 block). I was listening to ESPN radio on the way home from work last night and they were talking about the NBA’s different awards. After about a minute of… Read More »

No quit in Warriors

I have no problem admitting when I’m wrong. I wrote a couple times last week that the Warriors wouldn’t win any of their three final games of the regular season against a trio of Western Conference powers — Oklahoma City, Utah and Portland. I was wrong. This group of Warriors, even when there is seemingly nothing left to play for this season, refuses to quit. They continue to play hard and continue to put an entertaining product out on the… Read More »

Slow down on the Williams hype

I like Reggie Williams a lot. I like Reggie Williams’ story even more. Reggie Williams, who was once the NCAA’s leading scorer, was overlooked by NBA scouts because he played at a small school (VMI) that played at a faster pace than even the Warriors. He continued to be overlooked at numerous draft camps and tryouts, failing to impress any team enough to give him a chance. Williams took that failure and built something out of it. I love that… Read More »

Williams gets second 10-day contract

Reggie Williams signed a second 10-day contract with the Warriors. In six games since his call-up from the NBDL, he has averaged 12.8 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 23.5 minutes per game. He has been an efficient scorer as well, shooting 52.6 percent from the field, 40 percent on 3-pointers and 81.8 percent from the line. I think Williams’ play has exceeded everybody’s expectations. The second 10-day deal isn’t a big surprise. But will the Warriors sign him… Read More »
