Warriors forward Kelenna Azubuike had successful arthroscopic surgery on his right knee Tuesday. According to a press release from the team, the surgery was performed to address patellar tendonitis in Azubuike’s knee. Azubuike must remain on crutches for a week after which he can begin rehabilitation. In November 2009, Azubuike had surgery to repair a torn patellar tendon in his left knee.
Warriors forward Kelenna Azubuike exercised his player option for the 2010-11 season, worth $3.36 million. Azubuike, 26, played in only nine games last season as he spent the majority of the season recovering from a torn patellar tendon in his left knee. I always like to look at players’ stats adjusted to reflect starters’ minutes (36 per game). I’m fully aware it’s not an exact science; especially for players who get very few actual minutes on the court, it can present some false perceptions of a player’s ability. In addition, just because a player who normally plays 18 minutes a game would average 18 points and 11 rebounds in starters’ minutes doesn’t mean that player should necessarily get 36 minutes per game.… Read More »
I like Reggie Williams a lot. I like Reggie Williams’ story even more. Reggie Williams, who was once the NCAA’s leading scorer, was overlooked by NBA scouts because he played at a small school (VMI) that played at a faster pace than even the Warriors. He continued to be overlooked at numerous draft camps and tryouts, failing to impress any team enough to give him a chance. Williams took that failure and built something out of it. Usually, it’s unacceptable when athletes or coaches make excuses following a loss. It’s looked at as an admission of weakness, and no self-respecting player or coach would want to give future opponents any indication of feebleness or frailty.
