Looking ahead to tonight’s home game against the Memphis Grizzlies (7:30 p.m., CSN-BA), let’s look at what we’ve learned about this team through the first three games of the season. 1. The Warriors are better than we thought I think this is true. Most people had the Warriors winning 35 games, and I still think that’s about right. But I think that prediction looks more attainable now than it did before the season. When I predicted 35 wins, I thought it… Read More »
I have mixed emotions about the Warriors’ season-opening 132-128 win against the Houston Rockets. Emotion No. 1: Relieved I’m glad the Warriors got a win. The Rockets are a good team, even though they were playing the second night of a back-to-back and without Yao Ming. The Warriors had no excuses if they had lost this game, so it’s good that they held on for the victory. Emotion No. 2: Excited There were a lot of good things to take away… Read More »
First, I apologize for the long delay in posting something new on Warriors Wire. I have been swamped at work with high school sports, the World Series and many other responsibilities. I’ve had to take a step back from this blog because of other demands on my time. So I apologize. I’m excited for a new NBA season and can’t wait to see how this Warriors team performs. As most of you know, the Warriors open the regular season tonight… Read More »
Continuing a series that looks at the players on the Warriors roster this season and the expectations I have for them, we turn our attention to David Lee, the big offseason acquisition and all-star power forward for this squad: When the Warriors traded for David Lee during the offseason, it finally gave hope to those Warriors fans who were tired of watching small ball. The Warriors, bereft of a legitimate big man for years, finally had one. Lee is a talented offensive player,… Read More »
ESPN’s Chad Ford graded the offseason moves for all the NBA teams and the Warriors stacked up well in the West. The team ranked fifth among the 15 teams in the West and were awarded a B. It’s little surprise that the primary justification for the high grade was the transition of ownership from Chris Cohan to Joseph Lacob. But, Ford also mentioned some of the Warriors’ young talent in the Warriors’ write-up, which is appreciated. It’s an ESPN Insider… Read More »
It took a little longer than expected, but free agent big man Louis Amundson made his decision, reportedly agreeing to a two-year deal worth almost $5 million with the Warriors. Amundson chose the Warriors over the New Orleans Hornets and Indiana Pacers. Amundson was a fan favorite in Phoenix last season, averaging 4.7 points and 4.4 rebounds in 14.8 minutes per game. A limited offensive player, Amundson is better known for the high energy he brings to the court. He will help the… Read More »
This isn’t a full-blown season preview; that won’t come until much closer to the start of the season. But, I do feel optimistic about the Warriors’ odds of improving this season, so I thought I’d share some of the reasoning. Optimistic about improvement doesn’t mean I think the Warriors will win 40+ games this season and challenge for the playoffs. This team still has a lot of question marks that need to be answered before we start thinking along those… Read More »
