NBA commissioner David Stern chose Mavericks point guard Jason Kidd to replace Lakers injured guard Kobe Bryant on the Western Conference All-Star roster.

I assume any chance Warriors guard Monta Ellis had of being chosen died when he sprained his knee. So I don’t know if you can classify this as a snub. The question is whether Stern would have chosen Ellis if he was healthy.

Personally, I don’t think he would have chosen Ellis even if he was healthy. I get the feeling that the NBA front office, the league’s opposing coaches, andĀ opposing fans don’t respect Ellis, despite his gaudy stats. This reminds me of Zach Randolph’s first few years in the league. He was putting up consistent 20-10 seasons but never got an all-star sniff because the NBA and the coaches considered him a stat-stuffer who wasn’t a winner. Now that he’s putting up the same numbers as before, but winning, suddenly he’s an all-star. Maybe the same will happen for Ellis someday.
