Warriors guard Stephen Curry will play in the NBA's Rookie Challenge. Is a Rookie of the Year award next?

Warriors rookie point guard Stephen Curry was selected by the NBA’s assistant coaches to participate in the T-Mobile Rookie Challenge. The game, which pits the Association’s best rookies against its best sophomores, will be Friday, Feb. 12 in Dallas during NBA All-Star Weekend.

Curry, who was drafted by the Warriors with the seventh overall pick in last summer’s draft, ranks first among rookies in steals (1.83). He is also second in free-throw percentage (.849) and 3-point field goal percentage (.428), third in assists (4.5) and fourth in scoring (14.0).

Curry has improved throughout his rookie season, and is playing excellent basketball in January. In 12 games this month, Curry is averaging 19.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, 4.6 assists, 1.9 steals and is shooting 47.6 percent from the field, 47.7 percent on 3-pointers, and 86.2 percent from the free-throw line. He is averaging 39.6 minutes per game in January.

Curry will be joined on the rookie team by Kings guard Tyreke Evans, Kings forward Omri Casspi, Bucks guard Brandon Jennings, Timberwolves guard Jonny Flynn, Bulls forward Taj Gibson, Pistons forward Jonas Jerebko, Thunder guard James Harden and Spurs center DeJuan Blair.

The rookies, which have a 2-8 all-time record in these games, will have their hands full against a Sophomore squad that includes Bulls guard Derrick Rose, Heat forward Michael Beasley, Clippers guard Eric Gordon, Timberwolves forward Kevin Love, Nets center Brook Lopez, Knicks forward Danilo Gallinari, Thunder guard Russell Westbrook, Grizzlies center Marc Gasol and Grizzlies guard O.J. Mayo.
